7 Affiliate Marketing Mistakes You Must Avoid
While the advantages of affiliate marketing makes it a lucrative way to make a great living online, most affiliate marketers make the same mistakes repeatedly killing off their chances to make significant income.
What starts off as a seductive dream of being a super affiliate quickly fizzles away into frustrating series of road blocks and tiny affiliate checks. This inevitably leads one down the torrid AND horrid path of chasing new opportunities.
If you want to genuinely rake in fat checks, just avoid these 7 affiliate marketing mistakes:
1. Failing To Build A List - After working your butt off to get some traffic if all you have is one shot at making a conversion, even the best marketers will have less than enviable results. Building a list of people in your niche gives you the power to continually persuade, tempt, and engage the prospect into a conversion, and more than likely multiple conversions.
2. Rushed or Confused Keyword Research - The mistake most make while doing keyword research is looking at dry numbers. Like most, if you are choosing keywords to optimize your pages for is based on just search volume and competition numbers only you’re shooting yourself in the foot. While those two metrics are very important, you need to spend just a second or two “seeing” the meaning of the key phrase relative to the offers you’re promoting.
For e.g. you may see good traffic and competition numbers for the weight loss keyword “body mass index calculator”, but if you’re promoting an ebook on how to lose weight fast like fat loss 4 idiots it is an extremely poor keyword to target as the chances of converting that traffic is minimal. Look for the “meaning” behind the keywords you choose and not just the right numbers purely from an SEO point of view.
3. Absent Pre-sell - Just writing an article based around a keyword does absolutely nothing towards helping you convert. When promoting offers adopt the mentality of a news reporter who is simply reporting on the advantages and shortfalls of the product or topic and do your best to “wrap” it within a story. Personalizing what you’re saying makes a real connection with the reader which in turn dramatically increases your chances of making money off them.
4. Site Structure Chaos - Are your web pages structured like London or New York City roads? It better be like NYC as the roads are very well organized with it’s streets and Avenues…easy to get around. London roads on the other hand have no structure!
Structuring your site into themes and sub themes not just by way of linking but on your actual web host makes your site rank dramatically higher, especially in Google as it makes it easy and logical for the search engines to clearly understand what you site and pages are actually about.
5. We Hate Paying VAT But What About VAB - Value added bonus. This is one of the critical ways super affiliates stay miles ahead of the pack. Offer something e.g. a report, an audio, a collection of Youtube videos you’ve compiled etc that offers REAL value on top of the product you’re promoting. Giving that extra increases two things in your favor. The exclusivity of your bonus makes you the one the prospect will buy through…and to actually convert on the original offer itself.
6. Choosing The Wrong Niches and Products To Promote - Since building sites and writing content takes effort do not make the mistake of promoting products in niches that have provide no further opportunities to earn from. While there is money flowing through let’s say markets like “Government records” “reverse phone” services etc, there are usually one time purchases. There’s nothing more to offer such a prospect. Choose a niche where a person typically buys multiple things.
7. Failing To Build Relationships With Your List - Most folks build lists and look at them as “numbers”. When you have that approach you will fail to make much money, if any at all. View your list as X amount of real, breathing human beings and the way you communicate and write your follow ups will change automatically.
Avoiding the above 7 affiliate marketing mistakes will make certain you only need a few sites to enjoy super affiliate income, and not continually build small worthless sites after another. Quality will always beat quantity.
